This collage series came together from feeling one way of “normalcy” which is represented from the watercolor paper, and then metaphorically being ripped apart emotionally to assemble oneself in a facade that you’re put together yet fearing what is the unknown which is where the collage component comes into play.
The iridescent strips represent the chrysalis that butterflies/breast cancer victims emerge from to become survivors.
I then finished this piece in a very thin resin layer representing the new and shiny you that emerges through this entire process- representing the reconstructive component that comes after breast cancer.
*This piece purposely does not feature my signature paint blobs as I felt with the new body- it was not appropriate to keep the classic Caitlin Vasko signature paint blob stroke.
